Types of ArthritisThe most common forms of Arthritis are: Osteoarthritis is a degenerative form of arthritis, usually present in older people, or sustained with an injury where cartilage has worn away from the bone, causing friction and irritation within the joint. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis in Australia. AND Rheumatoid Arthritis can affect anyone from 6 months old and over. It affects approximately 1% of the Australian population; with no known cause, the trigger for the disease has not been found. Rheumatoid arthritis is classified as an inflammatory autoimmune disease, which attacks the lining of the joints, and can lead to deformities, severe physical impairment and pain.
Other forms of Arthritis are: • Ankylosing spondylitis • Gout • Juvenile arthritis • Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus) • Scleroderma There are over 200 forms of Arthritis. Arthritis refers to pain and inflammation within the joint and this can be caused by over 200 diseases and syndromes.
