Exercise for cancer survivors

Maintaining regular exercise after your cancer treatment will have many health benefits and will help maintain your overall good health and wellbeing.

Physical fitness and keeping body weight down, can play a large part in reducing the incidence of some cancers recurring. Women in the healthy weight range are up to five times less likely to die than heavier women with cancer. Being overweight has been linked to the recurrence of colorectal cancer.

The Cancer Council Australia www.cancer.org.au recommends cancer survivors:

  • Maintain a healthy body weight with a body mass index between 18.5 and 25
  • Be physically active with at least 30 minutes of moderate activity every day
