Glucose is vital to body metabolism because it’s the powerhouse for every cell, tissue and organ in the body and the many processes each of them carry out.
Carbohydrate sources are foods like fruit, vegetables and grains which are broken down in the digestion process and absorbed in the small intestine. It’s then stored in the liver until needed and then released into the bloodstream.
Hormones are glucose regulators so if levels increase too much, hormones release insulin from the pancreas to help glucose return to storage in the liver. Less insulin is released from the pancreas when levels are low.
