After a stroke, doctors may prescribe several different types of medications. After an ischaemic or thrombotic stroke, they may prescribe anti-clotting medication, such as aspirin, possibly in combination with another drug such as clopidogrel or dipyridamole. After a stroke caused by an embolus, they may prescribe another powerful anti-clotting drug called warfarin. It may have significant side effects and must be carefully supervised by the doctor. As well they may need to take medications to lower their blood pressure, others to lower their blood cholesterol, and for diabetes. |
