Who is at risk?

Sleep apnea affects people of all ages. It is more common in adults than in children. Also, it is commonly seen in men over the age of 40 than in women who are at the same age. If you are overweight, you are also at a higher risk of having sleep apnea.

There is enough evidence suggesting the association between genetic and sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). It is also found in obese children or children with large tonsils or adenoids. Snoring could be an important warning sign for sleep apnea in children, as snoring is not normally seen in children.

People with large tongue and excessive soft tissue at the top of the throat where the passages from the nose and mouth connect with the throat, are at higher risk of having sleep disorder.
